Each spring and fall, the European Parliament Liaison Office in Washington D.C. greets and welcomes four interns that are motivated and interested to participate in the Parliament’s work. Their work entails supporting the EU-US partnership the DC EPLO has. Each intern is assigned a different specialization and EPLO supervisor for their five-month-long traineeship. Alongside their support towards trans-Atlantic cooperation and communication, the EPLO interns also work on analyses and preparing legislative briefs (of both U.S. and EU laws), writing articles for both American and European audiences, supporting outreach and engagement events, and assisting the administrative aspects of the EPLO.

Our interns come from all over the US, to D.C to learn and grow their professional abilities. Albert is part of the EPLO’s Communications Team on cross-policy outreach and public diplomacy. He joins us from Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from St. John’s University with degrees in criminal justice and government and politics. Previously, he interned at the UNFPA, assisting the organization in reaching their mandate. He is currently a graduate student at American University where he is studying political communications. His work covers the team’s media, outreach, and event management, especially around the European elections in June this year.

Daniela is part of the Internal Policies team, where she works specifically on energy and environment and works with staffers on specific policy areas or a broader range of transatlantic policy issues. Born in Miami, Florida, Daniela grew up and in Nicosia in Cyprus and as well has Venezuelan heritage. Her previous work experience was with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus. She earned a Bachelor's degree in International Relations from the University of Massachusetts Boston, and is pursuing a Master's degree in International Affairs from George Washington University.

Olivia is part of the EPLO’s Research Service team. She works with the office to conduct research and write memos and research papers for Members of the European Parliament and staffers at our headquarters. Olivia is from Reading, Pennsylvania and obtained her bachelor’s degree in international affairs from George Washington University. Prior to the internship, she interned at the Senate Special Committee on Aging under Chairman Bob Casey Jr (D-PA).

Wesley is part of the foreign affairs, international trade, and security and defence team. Wesley joins us from Stockton, California. His focus is on analysing legislation and policy discussions relevant to the transatlantic EU-US relationship. Prior to this, he was a legislative intern at the House of Foreign Affairs Committee Democratic staff. Wesley has degrees in political science and Russian from the University of Arizona.

This traineeship will equip the four students with professional experience, a ranging network, and life skills that will remain with them throughout their careers. We are excited to have them aboard this trip and are delighted to work with such a motivated group. To follow along their and the EPLO’s journey, join us us here and on our social media channels.
