EU and US lawmakers in Warsaw discuss trade, Ukraine, security, and new technologies
The Transatlantic Legislators’ Dialogue was organized for 90th time.
Ukraine, security, new technologies, and global trade were the main topics of the 90th meeting of the Transatlantic Legislators’ Dialogue (TLD), held on 14–15 June 2025 in the Polish Sejm (Parliament).
The two-day session brought together lawmakers from the European Union and the United States. The meeting concluded with the signing of a joint statement by the TLD co-chairs: Brando Benifei, Chair of the European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with the United States, and Congressman Nathaniel Moran. The statement emphasizes that the transatlantic partnership remains a cornerstone of global peace, prosperity, and democratic resilience.
The document unequivocally condemns Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and holds Moscow accountable for war crimes, including the deportation of tens of thousands of children from occupied territories. “We recognize that Ukraine is ready for peace and believe that a just and lasting end to the war must be achieved through strong leadership on both sides of the Atlantic,” the statement reads.
Parliamentarians highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation in the field of security, including military mobility, cybersecurity, strategic information exchange, and countering hybrid threats.
The discussions reflected in the declaration also addressed the challenges related to the development of artificial intelligence. The need to establish common standards and legal frameworks that will protect democratic values and civil rights was highlighted.
In the context of global tensions and economic disruptions, the co-chairs expressed their readiness to jointly address trade challenges and to restore a global system based on fairness and equal rules. They stressed that transparent and equitable trade principles remain essential to maintaining competitiveness on both sides of the Atlantic and to preventing external actors from exploiting internal differences within the transatlantic alliance.
Brando Benifei emphasized that the purpose of the meeting was to find concrete solutions to strengthen transatlantic relations. “We all see the need for unity in a world marked by tension, instability, and conflict – especially in light of Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East. We need a strong partnership between the European Union and the United States – that is why we are meeting to develop new forms of cooperation and take joint decisions about our shared future,” he stated.
At the end of the meeting, the delegations visited the Warsaw Uprising Museum to pay tribute to those who resisted occupation during the Second World War. The visit served as a reminder that freedom and democracy require constant commitment and defense.
The Transatlantic Legislators’ Dialogue (TLD) is an initiative that for over two decades has enabled members of the United States Congress and the European Parliament to exchange views and experiences directly and to jointly develop positions on issues of global significance.
