At the end of July, we thank Albert, Daniela, Olivia, and Wesley for their work these past five months. They were focused on communicating about the 2024 European elections, analyzing and preparing legislative analyses of EU and US laws, composing articles for audiences on both sides of the Atlantic, and supporting outreach and engagement events, all while being students as well.
As their time at the European Parliament office in DC comes to an end, our four interns reflect on their internship experience:
Albert (New York) has a European background and has always wanted to be part of the EU's institutions, and interning in the European Parliament was a dream come true. From the first week, he assisted in EU legislators' Capitol Hill meetings, later presenting to universities and executive agencies and accompanying the Parliament's Spokesperson to the White House and Presidential campaign headquarters. Every day was a learning experience at the European Parliament Liaison Office, especially during the campaigning period. If there were one takeaway from the internship, it would have to be “Use your vote!” -Albert added.
Daniela (Florida/Cyprus) felt that her traineeship at the Parliament’s office was an unforgettable experience, and she is genuinely grateful for all the growth and learning she experienced. Attending events across Washington DC with various stakeholders and immersing in the US Congress and European Parliament interactions has been eye-opening. She feels very fortunate to be able to bring together her multicultural experiences in the EU and the US. Learning about energy and the environment in a transatlantic setting gave her a deeper understanding of the EU and the US collaboration. "Working with everyone in the office and being able to contribute as well as learn is an invaluable experience that I deeply treasure" – Daniela adds.

Olivia (Pennsylvania) felt the traineeship at EPLO exceeded her best expectations and left her with lasting, meaningful connections. With the unique opportunities provided by the DC office, she met with EU legislators, members of Congress, and other high-ranking officials in the transatlantic community. During the super-election year, she also provided fascinating tasks as the research intern to examine the worldwide impacts of the European and US elections. "Overall, the traineeship was an amazing opportunity for an American citizen to contribute to the important work of the European Parliament."- Olivia concluded.
Wesley (California) was the Foreign Affairs Student Trainee at the Liaison Office. Through his time here as a trainee, he had opportunities to practice his writing skills continuously and learned many things that will help his career in the future. His favorite part was when he could attend meetings at think tanks, congressional institutions, and government agencies. Wesley mentioned that this traineeship has been an exciting experience. Wesley concluded when he remembered thinking, "This traineeship has allowed me to further my skills and professional development."
The trainees seemed to have enjoyed their time at the Parliament’s office. As they always said, "There is never a dull moment at EPLO." From raising campaign awareness to networking throughout DC to assisting with the team's day-to-day tasks, our four trainees are proud of the work they have done and are excited to use their experiences gained at EPLO in their professional careers.
